A vicar from Barnsley is making pottery to raise money for his church's roof repairs.
Canon Keith Farrow has been doing different activities to collect funds for fixing holes in the roof of Cawthorne All Saints’ Church. He has already raised about £70,000 for this cause.
Now, he's learning to make clay flower pots with help from Gordon Harrison, who owns William Blyth, a clay manufacturing company in Cawthorne.
Rev Keith told We are Bansley: “This is my first ever attempt at working with clay. It took me three goes under the tutelage of master clay maker Gabriel Nichols to make my own little pot.
“It takes far more skill than it looks – I didn’t know if I’d start spinning with the table when it started.”
“The fundraising work has brought me in contact with lots of people I wouldn’t have met otherwise,” Rev Keith added. “It’s shown me how important the church as a building is to so many people. It really warmed my heart to see how much people care – I guess every cloud has a silver-lining.”
William Blyth is making 100 larger pots, each selling for 55 pounds. All the money raised will go back to the church. Each pot has a special number and a rose design. The first one made, called 'The One', will be auctioned off later.
