Jesuit brother Guy Consolmagno, who has taken over as the president of the Vatican Observatory Foundation, says the discovery of aliens will not lead to questions about the existence of God.
In an interview with the Catholic News Service, he said finding aliens will not prove or disprove the existence of God.
The public will react the same way it did when other planets were found in the '90s, he said.
"The general public is going to be, 'Oh, I knew that. I knew it was going to be there,'" he added.
Brother Consolmagno has worked at the Vatican Observatory since 1993 and thinks the discovery of life beyond planet Earth will make people consider their relationship with God.
