US pastor burns ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’ books over witchcraft concerns

by Kelly Valencia

A pastor in the US state of Tennessee has held a "book burning event" in his church after he felt God "directed" him to burn all fantasy books such as "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" over witchcraft concerns.

The event was part of a preaching series on deliverance the church is following.

During Global Vision Bible Church's Wednesday service, Pastor Greg Locke explained how he had received a message from God encouraging him to skip communion that evening and hold a book burning event instead.

"We always have communion on Wednesday nights … but the Lord specifically directed me tonight not to do it," Pastor Greg said.

"There's a mixed multitude in this tent. I ain't breakin' bread with witches. You hear me? … I ain't breakin' bread with demons. I ain't breakin' bread with freemasons. I ain't breakin' bread with occultism."

Pastor Greg had already organised for the church to hold a bonfire that night and had previously urged congregants to bring books, "tarot cards, Ouija boards, healing crystals, idol statues, spell books and everything else tied to the occult".

The burning event, which was live streamed after the preaching, has attracted much attention and criticism prompting Pastor Greg to post a video response on his Facebook profile.

He said: "I just want to say this, the devil owns the news media, there's a reason Ephesians calls him the prince of the power of the air. Fake news is just that, it's just as fake and wicked and evil now as it ever has been. There's a lot of things that we would know and realise, recognise and understand if the news would actually cooperate and tell the truth, but they don't."

He continued by referencing Acts 19 and said they are "exposing the Kingdom of Darkness for what it is. It's time for people to be delivered."

"When you start lifting a lid on hail, and exposing the works of darkness, here's what happens when you expose the works of darkness. You bring in an invisible kingdom out visibly. And then you show that the kingdom of God triumphs over it and it takes off the devil. And we've ticked off the devil for which I'm not apologising, I'm explaining."

He went on to recognise Global Vision doesn't "do things like the church down the road or the one you grew up in" and encouraged people to visit the church and "watch God set some people free".

"We're sticking to it. We don't care what the fake news says. We know what the real news says. And the real news is the power of the gospel," he concluded.

Pastor Greg has previously made headlines for suggesting autism, epilepsy and other mental health disorders are demon possession in one of his sermons.
