US missionary killed in Angola after relocating his family

by Lydia Davies

A former Minnesota pastor was killed after relocating with his family to Angola to serve as a missionary.

According to the Mail Online, Beau Shroyer, 44, previously the lead pastor of Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, moved to Angola with his wife, Jackie, and their five children in 2021, joining SIM USA to serve in what he described as a "remote bush village" with limited resources.

Randy Fairman, president of SIM USA, informed Shroyer’s congregation of his death, expressing confidence that Shroyer "is now with his Savior."

Few details surrounding Shroyer's death have emerged as church and mission officials await information from Angolan authorities.

Shroyer had formerly worked as a police officer before transitioning into real estate, ultimately becoming a pastor. In 2021, he and Jackie were among the first missionaries to arrive in Angola following pandemic lockdowns.

“From our perspective, we must now trust Jesus through a season we never expected,” Fairman wrote in a letter to the congregation.

Shroyer's successor, Pastor Troy Easton, shared his reflections, noting the difficulty of reconciling the loss but finding comfort in the unwavering love of God and Shroyer’s devotion to guiding others toward faith.

Easton assured congregants that Shroyer's family is “strong in the Lord and His word” and is supported by a caring community.

Shroyer leaves behind his wife Jackie and their children: Bella, Avery, Oakley, Iva, and Eden.
