Ministers from a community in the US state of California are calling for an end to street violence after a 65-year-old pastor was killed last month outside his church.

Pastor Joe Moore, the leader of the Upper Room Christian Church in Compton, was walking towards his car after leading a Bible study at church when he received a gunshot to his chest.

During a press conference, Dr Michael J. Fisher, a pastor at Greater Zion Church Family, said: "We're not going to hide."

"We're not going to live in fear and we as ministers, we're not going to sit back and allow others to take care of our community."

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has opened an investigation, but no arrests have been made.

Pastor Fisher continued: "We are calling for the LA County Sheriff's Department Homicide Division and the streets of Compton to locate the assailants that murdered Rev. Joe Reginald Moore. We will not rest nor stop until they are found. We are calling out those of the Black Lives Matter Movement to join us in taking back the streets of Compton and rallying in support of the family of Rev. Joe Reginald Moore."

This is the third passing that the Moore family has gone through in the last two months. The family had just buried an uncle who had died of natural causes and a 27-year-old grandniece who had also been fatally shot.

Speaking at the press conference, Pastor's Moore widow, Sharon Moore said: "I can't even think right now because I'm hurting so bad. But he was a good man and he loved God and I'm telling you, whoever did this, turn yourself in."

The ministers have organised a rally on 14th November to "pray for the families: to publicly call for accountability on the part of public officials - and finally, to call on the sheriff to put up a reward and boost law enforcement on our streets."

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay funeral expenses for the pastor.
