Ukrainian Catholics knelt as the blessed sacrament was moved from Kyiv to protect it from Russian bombs.

A video posted online shows two vehicles in convoy driving through a town as people kneel at the side of the road.

The convoy is believed to have been driving the blessed sacrament – the communion wafers from a Catholic cathedral in Kyiv – out of Kyiv for their own protection.

The video was tweeted by Michael Kelly, editor of the Irish Catholic News, who said: “The Blessed Sacrament was transferred from the cathedral in Kyiv today for safe keeping ahead of the expected Russian onslaught. Catholics knelt in reverence as the poignant procession passed.”

Many relics and artefacts have been moved into storage across Ukraine since the war with Russia began. Others, which could not be moved, have been wrapped or surrounded with sandbags in the hope that it will protect them.
