UK among world's top 10 Bible App users as millions search for hope

by Martin Hart

The UK has ranked seventh in the world for daily use of the YouVersion Bible App, as new figures suggest growing numbers of people are turning to Scripture for comfort and guidance.

According to YouVersion, daily engagement across its family of apps has increased by more than 13% compared with 2025, with around 18.5 million people worldwide now using its Bible apps each day.

The organisation said some of the most popular searches during 2026 included "anxiety", "hope" and "healing", while Psalm 91, which focuses on God's protection and refuge, was the most searched-for term.

YouVersion founder and chief executive Bobby Gruenewald said: "Over the past year, we’ve been encouraged by how many people are turning to Scripture for answers to their questions."

The organisation passed one billion installations worldwide last November and said a further 160 million installations have been recorded during 2026.

The figures come ahead of the second Global Bible Month in November, which will bring together churches, Christian charities and Bible organisations to encourage regular engagement with Scripture.

Organisations taking part include Alpha, 24-7 Prayer, Bible Society and Tearfund.

The campaign will feature a 30-day Bible Challenge, encouraging people to read or listen to Scripture every day. Almost three million people worldwide registered when the challenge was first launched in 2025.

YouVersion said the initiative had a particularly strong response in Britain, where 47% of badges awarded for sustained Bible engagement during 2025 were earned in November.

This year's campaign will also feature public displays of Scripture in major cities, including Piccadilly Circus in London, Times Square in New York and Osaka in Japan.

The announcement comes as YouVersion prepares to establish a new UK hub to strengthen its relationships with churches and Christian ministries.

Erin Gardner, who will lead the hub, said: "There is an undeniable interest in faith and spirituality across the UK, and the engagement that YouVersion’s Family of Bible Apps continues to receive is a testament to that trend."

She added: "Even the most-searched terms across 2026 speak to how people are turning to Scripture for answers, comfort and reassurance."

YouVersion currently offers around 3,800 Bible versions in approximately 2,400 languages and works with more than 45,000 churches, ministries and content partners worldwide, including over 1,300 in the UK.

The November challenge will also introduce a feature allowing participants to track their Bible reading progress alongside friends.
