Two female teachers accused of sexual abuse at Christian school

by Rachel Huston

Two female teachers working at a Christian preparatory school in Georgia have been arrested on charges of sexually abusing the same student.

Bonnie Elizabeth Brown, 25, Sherri Delle Mauldin, 60, were taken into custody earlier this month.

Brown was arrested on March 19 and charged with improper sexual contact and Mauldin was arrested for aggravated child molestation and statutory rape, according to The Independent.

The women worked at Nathanael Greene Academy (NGA) in Siloam, Georgia, a small Christian private school with only 85 students. Children attending the school are aged from kindergarten to 18-years-old.

Investigators believe that the abuse happened while Brown and Mauldin were employed at the academy, although neither was working at the school at the time of their arrests.

Brown had recently been teaching at Washington-Wilkes Primary School in neighboring Wilkes County before being terminated due to the allegations.

According to atlantanewsfirst.com, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said the investigation "confirmed that Brown had engaged in sexual contact with a student while employed as a teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy" and that Brown “was currently teaching in Wilkes County before her arrest".

The investigation began in June 2024 after the GBI received reports of sexual abuse linked to NGA.

According to the school's website, NGA encourages students "to be followers of Christ, equipping them with a biblical and academic  foundation to prepare them for adult lives".

The victim made a statement via their attorney to local news station WXIA

“I am relieved that these two women have been arrested and the crimes are being fully investigated," the statement said.

"These women took advantage of their positions as my teachers. My school did not protect me as a child. I see that now, and I hope that these arrests will protect our community and children in it.”

The investigation is ongoing.
