TV show accused of glorifying Satan gets its UK premiere

by Antony Bushfield

'Lucifer' has been created by Fox and is available on Amazon Prime in Britain.

It is loosely based on a character from the comic, The Sandman, and sees British actor Tom Ellis star as the Devil who gives up his place in Hell to move to Los Angeles where he begins helping the police in their fight against crime.

While 7 million people watched the pilot episode in the US, Christian campaign group One Million Moms, is calling for the show to be axed, claiming it will "glorify Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh".

It has launched a petition, which already has over 35,000 signatures.

The group said: "The series will focus on Lucifer portrayed as a good guy, 'who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell'. He resigns his throne, abandons his kingdom and retires to Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.

"At the same time, God's emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld.

"Previews of the pilot episode depict graphic acts of violence, a nightclub featuring scantily-clad women and a demon."
