TV's favourite Christian loses his voice

Harry Shearer has worked on the cartoon for 25 years producing voices for various characters.

Ned Flanders, one of the most popular characters, is known for being an evangelical Christian who's generous and friendly - often too much. He's often credited as representing Christians in mainstream television.

Shearer, who's also acted in a number of movies, is said to have been unhappy over a pay deal offered to the cast but he claims it wasn't about money. Taking to Twitter, he said: "Read my tweets. Wasn't about money. This because I wanted what we've always had: the freedom to do other work.

Al Jean, 'The Simpsons' show runner said that he was offered the same deal as other cast members and wished him well in the future.

He also added that the show would go on: "We do not plan to kill off characters like Burns and Flanders but will recast with the finest voiceover talent available."

The Simpsons has aired 573 episodes since 1989 and the Fox network confirmed last week that it had commissioned two more series.
