The ministry of popular pastor and activist Tony Campolo has said he is "making progress" after suffering a stroke last month. Campolo, 85, is the founder of 'Red Letter Christians' and an avid social justice campaigner in the United States.
A spokesperson for the Campolo Center for Ministry said in an update:
"Just a few days ago, I had a wonderful phone conversation with Tony. It was my joy to share with him about the many people who have reached out, offering encouragement and prayer. He was deeply touched. He is now working hard at therapy and making progress. Keep the prayers coming!"
Earlier this month, Red Letter Christian's Ash Barker told Premier that Campolo was "working very hard at therapy" and hoped to make a speedy recovery.
"He's quite determined. He's having trouble speaking and for Tony, those who know Tony, him not being able to speak must be difficult for him," Barker added. "Pray that he will be able to be patient with himself and that we'll be able to keep working at the therapy and he'll be recovering and back on air as soon as he can. He loves speaking, so for him to be able to speak again would be wonderful."
Messages of support and prayer have been pouring in for Campolo. "As an old friend and great admirer of Tony and Peggy I am holding them in my heart and in my prayers. GOD will continue to use him, I know, for His good," one person wrote on Facebook in response to the latest update.
Another added: "He is my favorite speaker & I love his sense of humor & compassion for the vulnerable."
