The pastor and theologian Tim Keller has been discharged from hospital to receive hospice care at home.

The renowned apologist was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020 and was readmitted to hospital last Sunday.

In a tweet on Thursday night, his son Michael said the family was sad and wanted more time with him, but recognise that he has very little time left.

Michael Keller said that two nights earlier his father had said in prayer: "I'm thankful for all the people who’ve prayed for me over the years. I'm thankful for my family, that loves me. I’m thankful for the time God has given me, but I’m ready to see Jesus. I can’t wait to see Jesus. Send me home."

The news has prompted an outpouring of compassion on social media. Among those posting is the Academic Dean and Lecturer in New Testament at Ridley College, Michael J Bird who wrote: "Pray for Tim Keller as he enjoys his last moments with family and prepares to meet his King and Saviour."

MP Tim Farron also posted: "Praying for your Dad and for you all. I’ve been so blessed by his wisdom and teaching."

Tim Keller who is the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, has undergone two years of chemotherapy for his illness.
