Thousands to visit saint relics

Relics of St Francis Xavier are put on public display in the Indian state of Goa once every ten years.

They'll be on display until January 4 at Se Cathedral in the city of Old Goa.

The remains of the Spanish saint are usually kept at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, also in the city.

He was one of the first Jesuit missionaries and worked in India when it was part of the Portuguese empire.

Canonised 70 years after his death, he's often considered as one of the greatest missionaries since St. Paul.

The 'Exposition of the Sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier' is now a Church- State event and is promoted by the Indian tourist board.
