Third Mexico priest dead in a week

by Aaron James

The Archdiocese of Morelia confirmed on Monday in a press conference (in Spanish, below) that Fr Jose Alfredo Lopez Guillen was found shot dead in Las Guayabas in western Mexico on Saturday.

It also said in a statement: "We lament these violent acts and the insecurity in our state.

"We hope that authorities solve this crime."

Fr Jose Alfredo Lopez Guillen's death comes after Fr Alejo Jimenez and Fr Jose Juarez were kidnapped from their church in the city of Poza Rica in Veracruz on Sunday 20th (mourners above and below).

It's believed Fr Lopez was last seen on Monday 21st when he ordered takeaway to his church in Janamuato in the south of the country.

He was not seen the next day and when his brothers were called to investigate they his home wrecked and two vehicles taken.

According to Catholic Herald 31 priests have been killed in Mexico since 2006.
