The Office actress refused to say lines as it 'wasn't what Jesus represented'

by Lydia Davies

Actress Angela Kinsey, known for her role as Angela Martin on The Office, recently shared on the Soul boom podcast with Rainn Wilson that during her career on the popular TV show she stood up for her Christian faith by objecting to a script line that mocked Christian beliefs.

Kinsey, who is open about her Christian upbringing, expressed discomfort with portraying her character in a manner that involved derogatory humor towards Christianity.

She recalled a moment where her character was scripted to make a joke at the expense of another character in a way that invoked Jesus inappropriately.

Actor Oscar Nunez played Oscar Martinez, a gay man, in the show and the script for one episode had Angela acting "super-judgey" toward Oscar in a way that left Kinsey uncomfortable. She addressed the concern with Greg Daniels, one of the show's creators.

“I never went up to Greg about any joke," Kinsey remarked. "But there was a joke... and I just was like, 'I don't feel good about it. I don't feel like that's what Jesus represented to me.'"

In response, show creator Greg Daniels agreed to remove the joke from the script.

In all, Kinsey and Wilson spent nearly six minutes discussing faith. At one point, in fact, they shared a prayer of thanksgiving together.
