The most popular Bible verse revealed in new survey

by Kelly Valencia

A new survey by World Vision has revealed John 3:16 is the most popular Bible verse in the UK and around the world.

The Christian children's charity reviewed Google search data for the 100-most-read Bible verses on a country-by-country basis.

John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life," gathers as many as one million searches every month.

Amy Boucher Pye, an author, speaker, spiritual director and blogger, says: "I heard a sermon recently about Nicodemus, the religious leader who came to Jesus at night-time so he wouldn't be seen by others.

"His conversation with Jesus surprised him and ultimately changed his life forever. I had forgotten that this story is the context for the most popular verse of the Bible, John 3:16."

The popular New Testament Bible verse is also widely use on social media platforms. On Instagram, the hashtag #John316 has been used on over 250,000 posts while on TikTok #John316 has been viewed over 55.9 million times.

Jeremiah 29:11 is the joint-second most searched Bible verse along with Philippians 4:13.

In the UK, John 14:6  with 1,900 monthly searches, Joshua 1:9 with 1,800 monthly searches and Genesis 1:1 with 1,600 monthly searches, form the top five.

The survey also discovered that Central and South American countries favour verses from Genesis.
