'The morals in this country have fallen so fast': Rapper's 'Satan shoes' with human blood under criticism

by Chantalle Edmunds

Franklin Graham has led evangelical voices on social media to strongly criticise a line of sneakers dubbed "Satan Shoes"

Rapper Lil Nas X has collaborated with a streetwear company to produce the limited edition shoes containing a drop of human blood in the sole, decorated with a pentagram and reference to the bible verse Luke 10:18: "He replied, 'I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.'"

Six hundred and sixty-six pairs of the custom Nike Air Max 97s have been launched by brand MSCHF .

A bronze pentagram pendant adorns the black and red shoes, while stamped in red near the sole is "Luke 10:18."

They are priced at $1,018, again a reference to the verse.

Nike has sought to distance itself from the production of the sneakers, saying they were custom adaptions of existing products:

"We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF," Nike said in a statement. "Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them."

The release of the shoes coincides with Lil Nas X's latest single Montero (Call Me By Your Name). In the video for the track, the rapper is seduced out of what appears to be the Garden of Eden before falling into hell where he dances for the devil.

The shoes have attracted criticism on social media with Franklin Graham stating: "The morals in this country have fallen so fast."

South Carolina pastor, Mark Burns, posted on Twitter, saying the shoe "is a reason why we Christians must be prayed up ready to battle in the spirit with the Voice of the Holy Spirit" and called the shoes "evil" and "heresy."

MSCHF, the company producing the shoe, previously released a pair of modified Nike Air Max 97s called the "Jesus Shoes," containing what it described as "holy water" from the River Jordan.

Lil Nas X's, who's real name is Montero Lamar Hill and is openly gay, saw his single Montero entered the top 5 on Global Spotify, Monday, with over 3.477 million streams.
