A Texas man convicted of killing his girlfriend’s 13-month-old daughter in 2008 said "bring me home, Jesus" as his last words.
Blaine Milam was executed by lethal injection on Thursday 25th September after exhausting all appeals.
The 35-year-old was found guilty of killing the toddler, Amora Rose, in what he and his partner described as an “exorcism”.
His former girlfriend, Jesseca Carson, is serving life in prison for her role in the crime.
In his final words from the death chamber, Milam spoke about Christian faith.
“If any of you would like to see me again, I implore all of you no matter who you are to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and we will meet again,” he said, adding: “I love you all. Bring me home, Jesus.”
Prosecutor Micheal Jimerson, who witnessed the execution, reflected afterwards: “We will never know what Amora would have contributed to our world. Answering the call for justice for the most helpless is a measure of a civilized people.”
Milam became the fifth person executed in Texas this year.
