Teenager dies at Christian sports camp

Charity Christians in Sport has announced that a 14-year-old has died at one of its residential camps in Derby.

In a short statement on its website, the organisation said: "On Monday 14th August a young person at our residential camp, Sports Plus, fell ill and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she sadly died later that same evening.

"We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this terrible news. We look to the comfort and hope we have in Jesus Christ and ask that you join us in prayer for the family and those impacted by this tragedy.

"In light of these events we took the decision to end the camp."

The Sports Plus camps take place at several venues across the UK and are attended by hundreds of young people who receive sport coaching along with Bible teaching.

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
