'Thank you Jesus': Stormzy and Ezra Collective honour God at the Brit Awards

by Premier Journalist

Jesus Christ was honoured at the BRIT Awards 2025 on Saturday, with jazz band Ezra Collective and rapper Stormzy boldly placing their Christian faith at the heart of their acceptance speeches.

As they collected their first BRIT Award for Band of the Year, frontman Femi Koleoso began by saying: "First and foremost, let me thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

The 'God Gave Me Feet For Dancing' hitmaker met his bandmates through the jazz programme Tomorrow’s Warriors in 2012, which he went on to praise, urging young people to take up music.

He said: "Secondly, I’ve banged this drum a number of times and I will continue to do so until this country gets it. This moment right here is because of the great youth clubs, the great teachers, and the great schools that support young people playing music."

The singer also emphasised the importance of getting children interested in musical instruments, believing it gives them something to "aspire" to and a "goal" to work towards in life.

He added: "The reason that we continue to bang this drum is because so many of the problems that face wider society in the UK, we’re unsure how to fix it, but the solution lies with giving a young person a trumpet, the solution lies with giving the young person a saxophone. When you do that, you give them a dream, an aspiration, and a goal."

Rapper Stormzy, who took home the award for Best Grime/Hip Hop, Rap Act, also expressed his faith in his acceptance speech. He said: "Firstly, I say thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus.

“I want to be very clear about the God I serve, that’s Jesus Christ, Yahweh, the God of Abraham, that’s my God.”

Singer Charli XCX, whose album "Brat" inspired a cultural phenomenon last summer, was the big winner at the BRIT Awards.
