Bannon calls for ‘Christian state’ in Middle East under Trump peace deal

by Mitti Hicks

Steve Bannon, the prominent MAGA activist and former senior advisor to President Donald Trump, is calling on a “three-state solution” for Palestine, Israel, and a “Christian state.”

Bannon’s comments come amid the recent Middle East peace plan that Trump announced to officially end the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. The deal also allows for the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.

"The only solution here, if you’re going to have a two-state solution, you have to have a three-state solution…you have to have a Christian state," he said.

Bannon, who calls himself a Catholic nationalist, added, "If you really want to protect the Holy Land, the Christians are going to have to get their own stake in this.”

According to The New Arab, the population of Christians of Palestine has been in decline, with many emigrating to escape the harsh conditions of life under occupation.  An estimated 50,000 Christians are living in the Palestinian territories, representing 2% of the population.

There are also an estimated 135,000 Palestinian Christians living within Israel’s 1948 borders who have Israeli citizenship.

Bannon’s comments come months after he stated on his podcast that people under 30 in the MAGA movement have “very little support for Israel” following reports that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza.

At the time, a Gallup poll revealed that only 32% of US adults supported Israel’s military actions in Gaza, a record low since the war began. That number fell to 9% among those polled between the ages of 18 and 34 across all political parties.
