St Giles’ Cathedral special service to celebrate the Queen – what to expect

by Kelly Valencia

Royal family members and representatives from the charities the Queen was patron or affiliated with in Scotland will attend Monday’s special service to celebrate the Queen’s life.

Following the procession from Holyroodhouse Palace, led by King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, a special service to celebrate the Queen and her links with the nation of Scotland will begin at 3pm.

The cortège between Holyroodhouse Palace and St Giles’ Cathedral will travel along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The journey is expected to last for about an hour.

Once at the cathedral, the service will be led by Minister Rev Calum MacLeod.

Her Majesty the Queen will lie at rest at St Giles’ Cathedral following the service before the coffin continues its journey to London.

Members of the public who wish to do so will be able to view the coffin at rest and pay their respects from 5pm.

Officials say a queuing system and security checks will be in place and mourners will likely have to stand in the queue for a number of hours.

Mobile phone use will be restricted and photography and recording will be strictly prohibited.

Paying tribute to the late monarch, Rev MacLeod said: “As the nation mourns a beloved Sovereign, the congregation gives thanks for her life of service rooted in her abiding faith. We pray for the King and members of the Royal Family in these days of loss and look forward to continuing our relationship with them into a bright future, giving thanks to God.
