Actor Shia LaBeouf broke down in tears when asked what he would say to Jesus if he met him.

Speaking out following his recent arrest, the actor said he would remain silent in Jesus’ presence and “kiss his feet”.

LaBeouf made the remarks during an appearance on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan, where he was asked: “What would you say to Jesus if you could meet him?”

“I wouldn't say [anything],” he responded, becoming visibly emotional. “But I'd kiss him...I'd kiss his feet.”

“Chill out with these questions, Andrew,” LaBeouf added after composing himself.

“My bad, I didn't know it was going to make you emotional, brother,” Callaghan replied.

The actor went on to describe himself as a “real Catholic”.

LaBeouf was arrested during the Mardi Gras festival in New Orleans last week following an altercation. He was charged with three counts of simple battery and has since been released on bond.

He was reportedly seen attending church the day after his arrest and has spoken openly in the past about his Christian faith.

LaBeouf has previously said that playing Boyd “Bible” Swan in the 2014 World War II film Fury marked the beginning of his spiritual journey.

The film, which also stars Brad Pitt and Jon Bernthal, includes a scene in which the deeply religious character emotionally recites a passage from Isaiah as his platoon prepares for battle against a large battalion of Nazi soldiers.

“I found God doing Fury,” LaBeouf told Interview Magazine in 2014.

“I became a Christian man...in a very real way. I could have just said the prayers that were on the page. But it was a real thing that really saved me. And you can’t identify unless you’re really going through it.

“It’s a full-blown exchange of heart, a surrender of control. And while there’s beauty to that, acting is all about control. So that was a wild thing to navigate.”
