Scottish mega church investigated by charity watchdog

The Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) is investigating a church in Glasgow over claims worshippers are being financially exploited and mistreated. 

Led by pastor and author Andrew Owen, Destiny Church describes itself as part of Destiny Ministries, a "contemporary, international, apostolic movement". 

Media reports claim a number of complaints were made to the charity watchdog linked to mistreatment and mismanagement of finances.

A spokesperson for OSCR has confirmed to Premier Christian News, it has received several reports regarding both Destiny Church and Destiny Ministries and will be contacting the charity trustees to obtain further information. 

The statement said: ''We have received a number of concerns about these charities which have been risk assessed in line with our inquiry policy. We will be opening an inquiry and OSCR will be contacting the charity trustees regarding these concerns to obtain further information to help our understanding of the matters of concern." 

Last year, the church hit the headlines after winning a legal battle with Edinburgh Council following the cancellation of their annual conference in 2020. 

The Council refused to host their three-day event in Edinburgh's Usher Hall after it had received complaints about one of the guest speaker's views on homosexuality. 

But later the Council accepted it had not taken into account the organisation's rights and apologised to the organisation. It also paid £25,000 in financial damages. 

Premier has contacted Destiny Church and Destiny Ministries for comment.
