Scarlett Moffatt has revealed she is a Christian after drawing closer to God as part of a television show.

BBC 2's Pilgrimage: The Road to the Scottish Isles sees seven celebrities 'following in the footsteps' of 6th-Century monk Saint Columba on 'ancient pilgrimages and heritage walking trails' covering 1,000 miles from Ireland to Scotland.

Whilst embarking on the three-part series, the celebrities will meet with monks and priests along the way.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain to promote the show, Moffatt said: 'I was travelling for 15 long days but it did feel like a year. My grandad was always really religious and I would do a prayer when I was in a sad place, but I didn't really know what my religion was and I wanted to find out what religion means to me.

'It was really thought provoking. I am normally on my phone or chatting with my friends, but I have taken the time to think now.

'Now I would say that I am a Christian. I am now still getting used to it.

"We went to live with some monks and we chatted about our beliefs and I defended my religion and beliefs and then I thought that it must mean a lot to me.'

The former Gogglebox Star will appear alongside interior designer and presenter, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, England cricket star Monty Panesar and actor Louisa Clein.

Former Countdown host and Apprentice advisor Nick Hewer, comedian Shazia Mirza and Paralympian Will Bayley will also be facing the trek.
