Russell Brand has revealed the Bible verse he was searching for during an awkward interview moment with Piers Morgan.

The comedian and actor was asked on Piers Morgan Uncensored about passage he was reading during a court appearance, having brought a Bible with him as he denied charges of rape and sexual assault.

In a video on X, the 50 year-old shared he was reading Isaiah 43:18-19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Brand asked viewers:“Do you wonder sometimes if what you personally face will align and combine with something universal? Do you not feel that our whole culture needs a new thing to ‘spring up’?” He also said Isaiah’s prophecies have spoken to the challenges people have experienced through time.

“It’s not some localised thing. So when you’re talking about ‘has the world been captured and conquered by dark forces?’ And you might see that from a conspiratorial perspective in a post-Epstein world. All of that is iterated theologically, historically and scripturally,” Brand said.

“Sorry it took me so long to find it on Piers Morgan, I think it was the pressure of the circumstances”, he added, showing the verse marked in his Bible.

During the interview, Brand searched through his Bible for nearly two minutes. He instead read from Isaiah 12.

The interview has sparked online discussion, about the moment Brand struggled to find the verse and the sincerity of his faith. He was baptised in the River Thames by wilderness explorer Bear Grylls in 2024.

Brand is due to stand trial in October. He faces multiple charges of rape and sexual assault, which he denies. In February, Brand clutched a Bible as he entered Southwark Crown Court.

He is promoting a new book about his Christian faith, How to Become a Christian in 7 Days, and recently announced his intention to stand in the 2028 London Mayor election.
