Pope Francis has declared a simple way to prepare for extra migrants expected to the city this winter.
The Papal has said that widening the pavements will help cater to the 30 million extra pilgrims expected from December.
The Jubliee of Mercy year means extra people are expected to flood into the city for celebrations.
The Mayor of Rome, Ignazio Marino, has also suggested plans for new cycle paths so that pilgrims can walk or bike around to reach basilicas.
Taking place throughout 2016 it aims to give believers the chance celebrate their own holy year with Pope Francis in Rome.
Consecrated men and women; deacons; priests; catechists; the sick and disabled; teenagers and prisoners have specific days on the calendar set out for them.
Young people will be able to celebrate their jubilee with the Pope at World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland.
