Queen's name inscribed on to Windsor chapel stone next to Prince Philip's

by Kelly Valencia

Queen Elizabeth II's name has been inscribed on the ledger stone in Windsor chapel, the church where she was laid to rest on Monday.

Her name has been engraved alongside her mother's, father's, sister's and husband's, all buried in the George VI Memorial Chapel, along with their years of birth and death.

Buckingham Palace said the new stone, has replaced the previous black stone which had featured the names George VI and Elizabeth in gold lettering.

The current stone now contains, in list form, "George VI 1895-1952" and "Elizabeth 1900-2002" followed by a metal Garter Star, and then "Elizabeth II 1926-2022" and "Philip 1921-2021".

Around 28 million people in the UK tuned in for the Queen's state funeral at Westminster Abbey and committal service in Windsor on Monday.

King Charles and his Queen Consort are now understood to be in Balmoral to continue with the royal family's period of mourning which will end on 26th September.

No date has been fixed for his coronation, but it is expected there will be at least several months until Charles's crowning.

Windsor Castle is currently closed to the public and will reopen on 29th September.
