Pro-life protester appeals MP's ban

by Heather Preston

A pro-life campaigner, who was banned from displaying posters of foetuses in public by an MP, will appeal his case on Wednesday.

Christian Hacking of Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CBR UK), was issued a Community Protection Notice in October 2019, after launching a campaign to prevent Labour MP Stella Creasy from promoting  abortion in his local borough of Walthamstow.

CBR UK launched a three-week campaign challenging Creasy's policies and raise awareness of the pro-life view through peaceful protests and leafleting.

A banner featuring a photo of Stella Creasy and an image of a 24-week aborted foetus was displayed on Walthamstow High Street.

It included the caption: "Your MP is working hard to make this a human right."

In response, Creasy demanded that local authorities intervene to prevent the public criticism of her views by Hacking and other pro-life campaigners.

Hacking was then issued with an anti-social behaviour order, legally banning him from displaying medically approved images of unborn and aborted babies in public.

Waltham Forest Council said the images were responsible for "unreasonable behaviour that was persistent in nature" and have "a detrimental effect on the quality of life of others."

Supported by the Christian Legal Centre, Hacking will appeal the notice on 26th February at Stratford Magistrates Court, arguing the right to freedom of expression.

Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, said: "Christian Hacking and CBR UK have done nothing unlawful. This whole case has been caused by MP Stella Creasy crying ‘foul’ and claiming harassment after being faced with the reality of what she fights for in parliament.

"If facing the reality of abortion causes her such discomfort, then abortion protests itself."
