A small UK-based Christian charity, has garnered praise from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for their exceptional fundraising efforts in support of Ukraine.
In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago, European Mission Fellowship launched an appeal aiming to raise £50,000 to assist Ukrainian workers facing escalating needs.
The response exceeded expectations. By the end of March, the charity had amassed nearly £2m and donations have continued to pour in.
The entirety of these funds has been directed to EMF's partner churches and organisations within Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
The money has been utilised for vital necessities such as food, medicine, blankets, and transportation, aiding those on the ground in providing refuge and support to their communities amidst the crisis.
Martin Tatham, EMF's Ukraine Project Manager, reflected on a recent visit to the country, stating, "The most memorable thing is seeing people who themselves are working so sacrificially on the front line, and yet are so grateful for the enduring support of Christians in the UK."
MP Jane Hunt conveyed the heartfelt gratitude of local officials and leaders to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, prompting him to extend his thanks to EMF for their impactful efforts. As the second anniversary of the conflict approaches, EMF remains committed to their mission of supporting churches and organisations serving the Ukrainian people.
Founded over 60 years ago, EMF has been actively involved in training, supporting, and resourcing churches and leaders across Europe. With over 90 workers in 19 countries, including Ukraine, the charity continues its vital work in the region.
