President Trump has issued an overtly Christian message as millions of believers celebrate the beginning of Holy Week.
Marking Palm Sunday, he reflected on the significance of Christ’s journey to the cross and the hope found in the resurrection.
In his 2025 Holy Week statement, President Trump said: “We will never waver in safeguarding the right to religious liberty, upholding the dignity of life, and protecting God in our public square.”
He encouraged Americans to remember Christ’s example of humility and obedience, especially in times of hardship.
The former First Lady, Melania Trump, joined her husband in expressing solidarity with Christians observing the sacred time in the liturgical calendar.
Reporting on Fox News, President Trump's message said he and the First Lady "join in prayer with Christians celebrating the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – the living Son of God who conquered death, freed us from sin, and unlocked the gates of Heaven for all of humanity."
Trump outlined the Holy Week journey from Palm Sunday through the Triduum—Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday—culminating in the joy of Easter Sunday. He emphasised the spiritual preparation that leads up to Easter: “This week is a time of reflection for Christians to memorialise Jesus’ crucifixion – and to prepare their hearts, minds, and souls for His miraculous resurrection from the dead.”
Since surviving an assassination attempt in 2024, Trump has been increasingly outspoken about his Christian beliefs. As a child, he was raised as a Presbyterian, and in 2020 described himself as a non-denominational Christian.
Trump has described the attempt on his life as a miracle, claiming that he was "saved by God". Since then, he has launched a task force to combat anti-Christian bias and has also created a White House Faith Office, which will lead Easter initiatives and events. Planned activities include a worship service on Maundy Thursday and an Easter dinner, with participation from notable American pastors.
The president closed his message with a blessing for the season: “May God bless you and your family during this special time of year.”
