PR guru threatens more scandal in Vatican leaks

by Hannah Tooley

Fracesca Chaouqui, a PR guru, has now said that two books published that alleged greed and financial misconduct in the Vatican are only "15 per cent" of what she knew.

She added that in eight months she is free of her Vatican contract: "Gay lobby? It's much worse than that," she commented.

Mrs Chaouqui, 33, faces eight years in jail if she is convicted in the Vatican court of leaking documents.

She was part of a committee formed by the Pope in 2013 to stamp out corruption.

Fr Lucio Angel Vallejo Balda, a Spanish priest, is also on trial, as well as the two authors of each book.

Pope Francis has now said it was a mistake to hire Mrs Chaouqui and Fr Balda, joking "Thank God Lucrezia Borgia is around," The Times said.

Lucrezia Borgia was well-known in the fifteenth century for poisoning her enemies.

Mrs Chaouqui blames Fr Balda for leaking the documents.

Her and her husband, an IT specialist, are involved in a separate case accused of hacking.

Fr Balda is also being sued by Mrs Chaouqui for saying that he had sex with her and that she bullied him into releasing documents.

Fracesca Chaouqui has said that she did introduce Fr Balda to the two authors, however claims she was not aware that he would allergy leak information to them.

She added that she has forgiven Pope Francis for calling her appointment a mistake: "He judges on what he knows, and he doesn't know it all."

The trial continues.
