Pope Francis will make an official visit to Hungary April 28-30, the Vatican said on Monday.
He will spend all three days in the capital, Budapest, a programme released by the Vatican showed.
Francis, 86, will meet political leaders, diplomats, priests and nuns, and intellectuals, as well as with poor people and refugees.
The pope, who made a brief stop in Budapest on his way to Slovakia in 2021, will preside at an open-air Mass in Kossuth Lajos Square on Sunday, April 30, before returning to Rome.
MEP Balasz Hidveghi, leader of Fidesz-KDNP in the European Parliament, said "We were happy to welcome Pope Francis in Budapest at the Eucharistic World Congress in 2022, and we very much look forward to his upcoming visit this year too.
"Pope Francis is a friend of Hungary and Hungarian catholics look forward to his visit with joy."
Earlier this year, the pontiff visited the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan with the Archbishop of Canterbury and General Moderator of Scotland, in order to improve church relations.
The trip was rescheduled multiple times as Pope Francis suffered from ill-health.
The pontiff has also scheduled a possible trip to Mongolia later this year. It will be the first time a pope has visited the nation.
