Pope meets Chilean miners rescued from 2010 mining accident

The men were saved from a collapsed mine five years ago after being trapped underground for 69 days.

Many of the miners said their faith was instrumental in helping them get through the trauma of the accident.

The gathered families often held prayer vigils at the site of the mine.

The group met the Pope before his General Audience on Wednesday morning.

Chilean miner Jose Henriquez told CBN News there was one alternative to giving up hope "and that was God himself".

"So we decided that unless God did a miracle there would be no way out," he said.
