Pope Leo stunned electronic music fans by blessing a crowd at a rave in Slovakia, which has since gone viral online.

Footage from the event showed the pontiff telling attendees to “share your faith” before closing with an ‘Amen’ just as the beat dropped.

The appearance celebrated Archbishop Bernard Bober’s seventy fifth birthday on 8th November 2025 outside St Elisabeth’s Cathedral in Košice.

A video was shared on Instagram by Padre Guilherme, a Catholic priest known as the “DJ priest,” which showed the Pope appearing via projection while lasers, spotlights, and projection mapping lit the cathedral walls.

During his blessing, Pope Leo said: “With joy, I greet you as you gather before dear young people. I greet you as you gather before the splendid cathedral, of course, which is a beating heart of faith and hope coming from different nations, yet united by the same faith."

He added: "Your presence is a tangible sign of the fraternity and peace that is instilled in our heart by friendship with Christ. I impart to you my apostolic blessing and entrust each of you to the protection of the Virgin Mary, Mother of the church and Queen of Peace, and may the blessing of Almighty God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit come upon you and remain with you always. Amen.”

Padre Guilherme, who has led in the Catholic Church since 1999, has DJ’d for several years and began streaming sets during the pandemic, combining techno beats with “sacred, folk music,” he told Classic FM. He added that raves brought together people from many backgrounds, much like shared faith.

The viral footage drew attention on Instagram, with commenters noting Pope Leo’s Chicago roots and the city’s connection to the origin of House music. One wrote, “This is the most Chicagoan thing ever!”

While another commented: "This is actually beautiful and what a way to bring young people together in faith!"
