A member of the Pontifical Foundation, 'Scholas Occurentes', Ronaldinho joined a number of other well-known sports personalities in the Vatican.
During the meeting, which the Pope opened, Scholas Occurentes announced it would be sponsoring another Match for Peace, a celebrity football match at Rome's Olympic Stadium.
Guests were also presented with the work of three Scholas Occurentes projects.
As Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Bergoglio reportedly played a fundamental part in creating the 'Scholas Occurentes', which is based in Argentina.
The organisation today is thought to include more than 400,000 members in five continents.
Scholas Occurentes projects include buying sports equipment for village school children in Maharajganj, northern India, while the Bujitos project in Buenos Aires is a drawing and cartoon workshop which introduces children to animation.
