Pope Francis has hailed an Italian missionary nun killed in Haiti as a martyr.
Sister Luisa Dell'Orto died "during an armed aggression, probably with the aim of robbery" on Saturday.
During the Angelus, Pope Francis offered his condolences to the family while highlighting her work with street children over the last 20 years.
"I entrust her soul to God and I pray for the Haitian people, especially the little ones, so they can have a more serene future, without misery and without violence," Francis said.
Ms Dell'Orto "gave her life to others, until the point of martyrdom", the pontiff said.
The diocese of Milan said Dell'Orto died in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital.
Haiti, a Caribbean country, is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere.
