Polish congregation sending supplies to Ukrainian refugees living in a church

by Alex Collett

A Polish church based in Dudley has been working tirelessly to collect donations, to send to refugees living in Gods Church in Krakow, Poland.

Yarek Jastrzebska, who is the pastor of the Polish church based in Dudley Community Church, said that the supplies will be shipped in the next few days.

Poland has welcomed over one million refugees who are fleeing the Russian Invasion in Ukraine.

Pastor Jastrzebska explained to Premier that there are refugees who are in desperate need: "The Evangelical Church have a lot of refugees already in the church and in different places as well.

"They need everything, that's why we are sending these donations to them.

"Some refugees come for a few days and some are going to live with Polish families, they literally open their homes to them and even take in some single mums with babies and children."

At present the Ukrainian anthem has been playing from the medieval tower of Krakow's most important church, St May's Basilica.
St Mary's Trumpet Call, a traditional bugle call played every hour, gave way to this sign of extraordinary times.

Pastor Jastrzebska explained that the lorry is coming to collect the items to send in the next few days.

The Polish Church has been in Dudley for six years and they have an active congregation who are deeply concerned about their friends fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

Pastor Jastrzebska said: "We meet for services and Bible groups, but we are focusing a lot on what is happening right now."

He also said that they have many links with the Polish church in London who are also helping to distribute the food items to Poland.
Pastor Jastrzebska also encouraged people to pray for Polish refugees.
