A teenager has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 52-year-old pastor Rev Autura Eason-Williams in the US state of Tennessee.

The United Methodist Church leader was found dead in her driveway with multiple wounds on Tuesday.

Police believe she was carjacked by a 15-year-old boy.

Video footage showed the pastor was approached by two males while she was in her car when one of the teens pointed a gun at her and ordered her from the car.

Police said Rev Eason-Williams was then shot by one of the teens while driving her car away.

"Incidents like these should make everyone have sleepless nights," Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis said on Tuesday.

"It should make everyone have feelings of hurt and pain," he continued.

Another 16-year-old boy was charged with theft of property valued between $2,500 (£2,000) -$10,000 (£8,000).

Her death has saddened her church community.

The pastor was the district superintendent of the Metro District in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Annual Conference of the denomination and was known for her work with young people.

"We all are shocked and saddened by this senseless act," the conference said in a statement.

Jody Hill, president of Memphis Theological Seminary, said the college was "devastated" by her death.

"She was a wife, mother, and a devoted friend to many. She led Formation classes at MTS and Signposts groups for the Center for Faith and Imagination. We join so many of you in shock and pain. Autura was a real light and a well of deep care," Hill said.
