Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church, appeared in a video message at the Shepherds Conference, expressing gratitude for the support of his congregation and ministry partners while continuing to recover from an extended stay in hospital.
MacArthur, who appeared frail, acknowledged that he is in his “last lap” of ministry as he regains strength following complications from heart and lung surgeries.
In the video, shared on social media, MacArthur thanked those in attendance at the conference, which took place 5th-7th March.
"I want to say grace to you all at the Shepherds Conference," he said. "For me, it’s the highlight of the year, so you have to know my disappointment in coming to you through video.”
MacArthur noted that his recovery had not been as speedy as anticipated but reassured viewers that he was feeling well, despite having lost strength during his time in hospital.
“I feel great; I just lost a lot of strength from being in the hospital for seven weeks,” he said. “I’m seeing a physical therapist, trainers, and trying to get back as soon as possible.”
The pastor also expressed his thanks for the prayers and continued faithfulness of his supporters.
"I realise I’m on the last lap," he said. "That takes on a new meaning when you know you’re on the short end of the candle. I am all thanks and praise to God for everything He’s allowed me to be a part of and everything He’s accomplished by His Word in these years of ministry."

The 85-year-old pastor underwent multiple procedures, including "three heart surgeries and surgery on my lungs", which he described in November.
Despite experiencing medical setbacks, MacArthur remained active and expressed gratitude for the strength to continue serving.
Following further complications in January, which led to breathing difficulties, MacArthur spent additional time in the hospital, though he was briefly seen at church before returning to treatment.
His medical team has been closely monitoring his progress, and he is undergoing physical therapy to rebuild strength.
Phil Johnson, executive director of MacArthur’s Grace to You ministry, clarified that only a small circle was fully aware of the extent of MacArthur’s condition, addressing rumors surrounding the pastor’s health and hospital discharge dates.
MacArthur, who has led Grace Community Church since 1969, is known for his decades of ministry, thousands of sermons, and influential writings.
He has also reached a global audience through broadcasts and online platforms. Despite health challenges, MacArthur resumed limited speaking engagements and continues to serve his church and ministry.
