Pastor condemns 'dangerous' M25 protests urging Christians to take 'more positive' approach in new initiative

by Heather Preston

A Christian initiative is calling on protestors to stop blocking roads and take a less disruptive approach to tackling climate change.

It comes as 38 environmental activists were arrested on Tuesday after targeting the M25 for a fifth time in just over a week.

Campaigners from Insulate Britain, together with seven members of Christian Climate Action have stopped traffic on the motorway in Surrey, Hertfordshire, Kent and Essex.

The demonstrations have caused major disruption and at times risked lives.

According to LBC, one woman was left paralysed from a stroke after being stuck in traffic for six hours by the protest.

The Climate Trust, launched by Pastor Tunde Balogun and Carl Brettle, is encouraging Christians to take a different approach to help protect the planet.

Pastor Tunde told Premier that although he understands the M25 protestors were responding to a passion for the cause, he cannot condone their actions.

"It is dangerous, it is risky, sadly a lot of people have been injured and someone has lost their life.

"It shouldn't get to this point. We can reason along together to make the government see how we can help and what they should be doing.

"There can be a better way to channel that passion into a positive engaging process that won't necessarily be dangerous or amount to anybody risking their lives."

The organisation which works towards plastic, carbon and emissions neutrality is inviting Christian individuals, churches and organisations to sign up and commit to tree planting and other green initiatives to help reduce the carbon footprint and educate people on how to live more responsibly.
