Pastor and author of ‘Majesty’ worship song dies aged 88

Prominent American pastor Jack Hayford has passed away at the age of 88.

Internationally known for having composed worship song “Majesty”, he also pastored The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California for three decades.

The composer and author also founded The King’s University and Seminary, which announced his passing on social media.

In a statement, the institution said: “Pastor Jack Hayford, The King’s University and Seminary (TKU) founder and chancellor emeritus, passed away on Sunday, January 8, in his home in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. He was 88 years old. His family said he died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of the morning, having eaten dinner with his wife, Valarie, and having spoken to one of his grandkids the evening before.”

It continued: “Today, we mourn his loss but celebrate the homecoming of a great leader in God’s kingdom. We know that this great servant and worshipper is now experiencing the greatest worship service of all.”

Pastor Jack also authored and co-authored more than 50 books and wrote more than 500 songs. He was also inducted into the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2014. 

People have been sharing their tributes pastor Jack on social media.

One person wrote: “One of the greatest apostolic fathers to all the generations. I know of few pastors that had the kind of impact on so many of us in my generation for the glory of Christ in my lifetime. May his rest be glorious. Eternal Memory!”. 

Another said: “Early on in my ministry there was one voice, one influence, one teacher that had a deep academic impact on my Faith—Dr. Jack Hayford. His impact will be felt for generations. RIP Dr. Jack."
