Six years after the devastating fire that blazed through Notre-Dame Cathedral, the iconic medieval towers of the Roman Catholic landmark, which serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Paris, have reopened to the public.

The milestone came nine months after the central nave reopened in December 2024 and marked a major step in the cathedral’s full restoration.

French President Emmanuel Macron climbed to the rooftop on Friday to mark the occasion, as part of European Heritage Days ahead of the public reopening on Saturday.

Worshippers and visitors can now climb the 424 steps to the top of the towers, reaching 69 metres above the city for panoramic views of Paris.

The tour begins in the south tower and leads to the bell tower, home to the famous 13-tonne bell, named 'Emmanuel'.

A key feature of the renovation is a newly built double staircase, inspired by the Château de Chambord.

According to EuroNews, tickets for the Saturday reopening sold out in just 24 minutes.

The towers are now open daily until 11pm, with entry priced at €16 (£13.75).
