Christian band Newsboys have been dropped by their record label following growing backlash over allegations involving former lead singer Michael Tait.
The announcement was made by current frontman Adam Agee during a live performance at the Elevate Music Festival in Arizona on Sunday.
He told the crowd: “As a result of all this—and the things that have come out, that [Tait] has done and confessed to—we’ve been dropped from our record label. We’ve had radio stations pull our music. We’ve been canceled by promoters and venues all over the world.”
Tait, who left the band in November, reportedly confessed in January to living “a double life” and stepped down to seek help.
In recent weeks, multiple reports have surfaced accusing him of serious misconduct, including sexual abuse and substance misuse.
The Newsboys’ recent album release has been overshadowed by the scandal, and several Christian festivals—including Kingdom Bound Festival—have removed them from their lineups.
The Christian music community remains divided in its response. Worship artist Cory Asbury stated that “everyone knew,” while Chris Llewellyn of Rend Collective called for broader reform within the contemporary Christian music (CCM) industry.
“I want to see an end to the parts of CCM that tolerated and incubated this abuse,” Llewellyn said. “But I also want people to continue to hear good news about a God who loves them.”
