YouVersion has announced the Bible verse that users engaged with most this year.
Found in the New Testament, Philippians 4:6 took the top spot, marking a shift from Isaiah 41:10, which had held the position for three consecutive years. The verse reads:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Commenting on the announcement, YouVersion Founder and CEO Bobby Gruenewald reflected on the significance of this trend.
“In many cases, our anxiety comes from holding onto worries that we aren’t meant to carry,” Gruenewald explained. “To me, this verse being sought out the most this year is an illustration that our community is seeking God in prayer and choosing to trust Him to carry their burdens—and we’re seeing that supported in the data.”
The app reported a 46 per cent increase in engagement with its prayer feature, with "prayer" and "peace" ranking among the most searched terms. The Prayer Team received and handled requests in 20 languages, with common themes including healing, finances, family, and anxiety.
Carla Harding, International Director of Products for 24-7 Prayer International, also highlighted a broader spiritual movement. “Throughout 2024, we have seen a rise in the number of people dedicating themselves to night-and-day prayer in different nations around the world,” she said.
“Our hope is that through continual prayer, the global church would be ignited in the presence of God and carry His love with greater compassion and power to the communities around them,” Harding added.
Regions such as Central and Eastern Africa saw the largest surges in Bible engagement, while growth in Latin America prompted the establishment of a new hub in Mexico City.
Since its 2008 launch by Life Church, YouVersion has been downloaded on more than 875 million devices worldwide, cementing its place as one of the most popular Bible engagement tools globally.
