Bible engagement in the U.S. is showing signs of revival among men.

According to the American Bible Society’s 2025 State of the Bible report, nearly ten million more Americans are now reading Scripture compared to last year.

The annual study, based on a survey of over 2,600 adults, reveals that 41 per cent of Americans now qualify as Bible users (those who engage with the Bible at least three times a year outside of church. That’s the highest level since 2021.)

Millennials are leading the way, with Bible engagement among them rising from 30 per cent to 39 per cent in just one year.

Men across every generation also saw significant increases, narrowing the long-standing gender gap. Among Gen X, for example, Bible use among men jumped by ten percentage points, surpassing women in that age group.

“In every generation, men are using the Bible more,” the report states. “Men have nearly closed the gender gap in Bible use, turning a seven-point gulf (41 per cent to 34 per cent in 2024) to a slim one-point deficit (42 per cent to 41 per cent).”

Jennifer Holloran, president and CEO of the American Bible Society, said the data may reflect a deeper spiritual searching.

“In a world where many feel weary, anxious, or unsatisfied, Scripture offers an enduring message of hope,” she said.

“The Church has a unique opportunity in this moment, to invite seekers into genuine encounters with the living Word of God.”
