'Society Sunday' will be an annual event, scheduled to take place on the Sunday nearest the Queen's Official Birthday. The 2015 event is on Sunday, June 14th.
Premier's plan is to encourage UK churches and other faith groups to invite their MPs, MEPs, Local Councillors, Mayors, and Police & Crime Commissioners to attend annual Sunday services at which they would be the focus for prayers.
Peter Kerridge, CEO of Premier Christian Radio, said; "We hope our proposed 'Society Sunday' plan will encourage churches across the country to work together on a neighbourhood basis to hold joint services to pray for The Queen and the Royal Family, together with civic and political leaders.
"The 'Society Sunday' initiative will help to counter trends towards secularism and a tendency to treat politics and government as separate from other values and activities in communities."
Describing the plan as a "noble idea", Eric Pickles said he hoped the 'Society Sunday' initiative would help to build relationships between local people and those in authority, strengthening ties between the community and different groups.
"I would encourage all faith communities to get involved to make 'Society Sunday' a huge success," he told Premier.
He added: "It also gives me great pleasure to compliment the work of Premier Christian Radio on the central role it's playing to make the Society Sunday initiative a reality, and helping people of faith and none to live together in harmony in our country."
