The campaign by Tearfund comes as the United Nations (UN) estimates dirty water is exposing 34 million people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to illnesses such as cholera and typhoid.
The UN also estimates even more people in the country, which has been devastated by years of fighting between government and militia forces for years, lack proper sanitation services.
David McAllister, Tearfund's Country Director for the DRC, told Premier the conflict has worsened in the last six months.
He said: "We do believe that we are following Jesus where the need is greatest and there is no bigger need than in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Upwards of six million have died as a direct result of the violence since 1999.
"There are millions of people living in villages and small towns in [the DRC] that have no sanitary infrastructure whatsoever, even what we call "long-drop" toilets; these are just pits dug in the earth with wooden structures on top."
Tearfund says conflict is affecting families across "many generations" and it is stopping residents accessing education, rearing livestock and building flourishing businesses.
The Christian humanitarian organisation is urging people to support their emergency response in the country which is also "helping survivors recover from trauma and rebuild their livelihoods".
Farmer, 45-year-old Salima Sumaili from the village of Kabanga in South Kivu was among many people who had to resort to drinking from a lake after violence forced them to flee their homes.
On their return, they realised the little infrastructure they had was destoryed and all their possessions of value had been stolen.
Speaking about the difference a hand-pumped well provided by Tearfund in his village had made, Salima said: "The water quality is very good.
"Since we have begun using the well, my family has far fewer illnesses than we used to have."
