Christian musician Michael Tait has been accused of grooming and sexual assault.
Allegations against the singer – who famously fronted the popular Christian rock bands DC Talk and Newsboys – date back to 2004 and have been published in an extensive article by The Roys Report (TRR).
Three different men spoke to TRR and detailed instances of alcohol abuse and sexual assault after being befriended by Tait on music tours in 2004, 2010, and 2014 respectively.
One also alleged that Tait offered him cocaine while on the Newsboys tour bus before engaging in non-consensual sexual contact.
Another of the accusers, 'Steven', alleged that after drinking heavily with Tait, he passed out and awoke to the singer sexually assaulting him. TRR claims to have obtained text messages between Steven and a former girlfriend in which they discussed the incident multiple times.
TRR said it has spoken to more than 50 sources about Tait's alleged behaviour and claims to have "documented [his] alleged predatory pattern with stories dating back more than two decades". The outlet also claims to have corroborated allegations of Tait’s alcohol and substance abuse "with multiple sources".
Tait stepped down from his role in Newsboys in January of this year, saying at the time: "This decision does not come lightly and has been a shock to even myself, but amidst prayer and fasting, I have clarity that this is the right decision."
