Memorial of Olivia Pratt-Korbel attended by 250 people in church she was to receive Holy Communion

by Sophie Drew

A memorial service has been held for Olivia Pratt-Korbel, a nine-year old killed in Merseyside after a gunman burst into her home.

Her mother, Cheryl, was in attendance. She had initially opened the door to see what was happening outside when the shooter and suspected target raced into her home. She was shot in the wrist as she tried to protect her daughter from the gunman.

The memorial, attended by over 250 people, was held at the St Margaret Mary's Roman Catholic Church, where she was due to receive her Holy Communion later this year.

During the prayer vigil, the auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool, Right Rev Tom Williams, called her death a "dark hour" for the city.

Previously, he said: "We've all taken this personally. There's a real sense of family in Liverpool - you hit one, you hit the other, you hit everybody."

Two men, aged 36 and 33, have been arrested in connection with the attack. Both were released on bail.

The eldest was returned to prison for breaching license conditions.

Police continue to hunt Olivia's killer.

During a press conference on Thursday, 1st September 2022, Merseyside Police released CCTV footage of the gunman escaping after entering with two guns and firing indiscriminately 'with no regard.'

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen has, once again, urged those protecting the perpetrator to come forward, branding the killer as "toxic" and telling those involved to place their "loyalty to their family about their loyalty to this man."
